What makes Kailey special?

Kailey and her husband, Blaze, tied the knot last November in the Lancaster/Leola area and have just made the move to Lancaster from Pittsburgh, PA, close to where she grew up.

Kailey earned her Doctor of Physical Therapy degree from Misericordia University, where she was also a dedicated member of the women’s field hockey team throughout her undergraduate years. Initially, she thought her career path would lead her to sports physical therapy, but during her graduate studies, she quickly discovered a deep passion for neurological rehabilitation.

Her clinical experiences further solidified this passion, as two of her three rotations were in  neurological settings — including inpatient rehabilitation for traumatic brain injuries (TBI) and outpatient neuro/vestibular therapy. This experience led her to specialize in treating patients with neurological conditions, vestibular disorders, and concussions.

Kailey is excited to build connections with her patients and become part of the Lancaster community. When she’s not in the clinic, you can find her exploring the area with her husband or spending time outdoors.

Want to know more?  Here’s a little Q & A…

Why did you choose to be a PT/PTA for your profession?

I had a personal connection to someone who went through an intense recovery process after an injury that may have prevented them from walking and doing what they love again. They absolutely crushed their PT journey and came back stronger than ever. Watching their recovery, I knew I wanted to do something similar for others.

I was always in athletics growing up and honestly thought that I would wind up in ortho/sports-based PT early on in graduate school. However, I quickly found a passion for neurological/vestibular based PT through my coursework and clinical experiences in graduate school and knew that is where I was meant to wind up.

What energizes you at work?

Being able to work alongside a supportive and passionate team

To see and hear that my patients are succeeding during a phase of life that may be one of the most challenging – I love when my patients get competitive with their “test days” to exceed their scores/abilities from when they first started

Most important advice you give your patients?

“Progress is not always linear” – there will be ups and downs throughout your recovery; you can continue to succeed and get stronger even on days that seem tougher; don’t forget to celebrate the small victories along the way.

“This is a two-way street” – I am going to do my best to help you achieve your goals and expect you to challenge yourself to do the same

“We are building you a tool-box” – between exercises, strategies, and education, you will have a ‘tool box of resources’ to help you continue to succeed once you are finished with your time in PT.

What is one thing that instantly makes your day better?

Getting a thank you note from a patient or caregiver – it is always extremely heartwarming and motivating

What’s the best advice you were ever given? Who was it from?

I don’t have an exact person from whom all this advice comes from, most likely a combination of family members, friends, professors, colleagues, and coaches over the years: “Keep an open mind, don’t be afraid to take a risk every now and then, just do your best.”

What’s your favorite famous or inspirational quote?

“Leave a place better than you found it”

Do you have any pets?

We have two adorable dogs: Pabu (5-year-old, shepherd/cattle dog mix) and Finnley (1-year-old, Australian shepherd). They look very similar yet have such different personalities. Pabu is the calm, relaxed one and Finnley keeps us on our toes with his high energy and playfulness.

What’s your favorite tradition (holiday or otherwise?)

I love celebrating birthdays and life events for family and friends – my husband and I adopted a tradition of putting together a basket of goodies for family/friends when they get a new house for when we go visit for the first time

My husband and I also love celebrating the traditions of our families around the holidays – my family does take-out for Christmas Eve and his does a big Seven Fish dinner – our first holiday season married (2024) we combined the two, and it was great!

Favorite Sport to watch?  Who’s your team?

I really enjoy watching ice hockey – I am a Pittsburgh Penguins fan having grown up in western PA near Pittsburgh, but I am now obligated to say “GO BIRDS!” as I have married into a Eagles family.

What do you do for fun?

Athletics: pickle ball, golf, field hockey (I played in college), walks with our dogs

Personal: book club with some of my old classmates, learning to cook new recipes, spending time with family and friends, my husband and I love to explore our local areas for different restaurants/stores

What’s the farthest you’ve ever been from home?

Bermuda and Bahamas – two very amazing vacations with my family
